Thermal analysis comprises a group of techniques used to study the relationship between a sample property and its temperature as the sample is heated or cooled in a controlled manner. This includes methods such as differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermo-optical analysis (TOA), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), thermomechanical analysis (TMA), and dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA).

Just a small sample of a few milligrams is sufficient to measure the most important properties and characteristics of a substance, for example, the specific heat capacity, glass transition, OIT, crystallization, polymorphism, decomposition, composition, as well as many mechanical changes that occur as a function of temperature.

Luka Racman Knez

Luka Racman Knez completed a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Technology at the University of Ljubljana and later pursued Master’s studies in Polymer Technology at the Faculty of Polymer Technology in Slovenj Gradec. During three successful internships in the Thermal Analysis department at METTLER TOLEDO, he contributed to exciting initiatives such as AIWizard™ and the TMA Robot. He also worked on research projects at the Jožef Stefan Institute in Ljubljana, where he synthesized liquid crystal elastomers and evaluated their mechanical properties. Luka joined METTLER TOLEDO as a permanent team member in 2025 and currently works as an Application Specialist, performing measurements with DSC, Flash DSC, TGA, TMA, and DMA, as well as evolved gas analysis (EGA).
