In sulfuric solution orthophosphate ions react with ammonium vanadate and ammonium heptamolybdate to form orange-yellow molybdovanadophosphoric acid that is determined photometrically (“VM” method). Phosphate Cell Test (Test kit 114729)

(o-phosphate and total phosphorous) Method: photometric, PMB 0.5 - 25.0 mg/l PO₄-P 1.5 - 76.7 mg/l PO₄³⁻ 1.1 - 57.3 mg/l P₂O₅

In sulfuric solution orthophosphate ions react with molybdate ions to form molybdophosphoric acid. Ascorbic acid reduces this to phosphomolybdenum blue (PMB) that is determined photometrically. This Nitrate Cell Test allows the accurate quantification of nitrate in water samples. Nitrate is an essential nutrient required for the growth of animals and plants. Chlorine Cell Test (Test kit 100597)

(free and total chlorine) Method: photometric, DPD 0.03 - 6.00 mg/l Cl₂

This Chlorine test allows the accurate quantification of chlorine in various waters. Chlorinated disinfectants are still in common use, their major applications being in the chlorination of drinking water and swimming pools. In weakly acidic solution free chlorine reacts with (DPD) to form a red-violet dye that is determined photometrically. In the presence of potassium iodide, also combined chlorine is measured in this reaction. The method is only valid when used with the Spectroquant cell test kit. Test kit order number 100597.

This Nitrogen (total) Cell Test allows the reliable determination of total nitrogen in water samples. Total nitrogen is the sum of total Kjeldahl nitrogen (organic nitrogen and ammonia), nitrate, and nitrite. The hardness (total hardness) of a given water is due to its content of salts of the alkaline earth metals calcium, magnesium, strontium, and barium (“hardening constituents”). Since strontium and barium are generally present in waters only in traces, the hardness is defined as the content in a water of calcium ions, Ca2+, and magnesium ions, Mg2+ (“hardness ions”). The conventional procedure is to relate the statement of the water hardness only to calcium, in other words to express also the content of magnesium ions as calcium content. COD Cell Test (Test kit 114690)

Method: photometric 50 - 500 mg/l

The COD (chemical oxygen demand) expresses the amount of oxygen originating from potassium dichromate that reacts with the oxidizable substances containedin 1 l of water under the working conditions of the specified procedure. The concentration of unconsumed yellow Cr2O72- ions is then determined photometrically. 1 mol Cr2O72- is equivalent to 1.5 mol O2. Results are expressed as mg/l COD (= mg/l O2). Silicate (Silicic Acid) Test (Test kit 114794)

Method: photometric 0.011 - 10.70 mg/l SiO₂ 0.005 - 5.00 mg/l Si

In sulfuric solution silicate ions react with molybdate ions to form a yellow heteropoly acid. This is reduced to silicomolybdenum blue that is determined photometrically. The method is analogous to APHA 4500-SiO2 D+E, ASTM D859-16, and DIN 38405-21. The method is only valid when used with the Spectroquant test kit. Test kit order number 114794.

Iron Cell Test (Test kit 114549)

Method: photometric 0.05 - 4.00 mg/l Fe

The test allows the accurate quantification of iron ions in various waters. All iron ions are reduced to iron(II) ions by ascorbic acid. In a thioglycolate-buffered medium these react with a triazine derivative to form a red-violet complex that is determined photometrically. Manganese Cell Test (Test kit 100816)

In alkaline solution manganese(II) ions react with an oxime to form a red-brown complex that is determined photometrically. The method is analogous to DIN 38406-2. The method is only valid when used with the Spectroquant test kit. Test kit order number 100816.

Copper Cell Test (Test kit 114553)

Method: photometric 0.05 - 8.00 mg/l Cu

The test allows the accurate quantification of the copper content in aqueous samples. In ammoniacal medium copper(II) ions react with cuprizone to form a blue complex that is determined photometrically. The method is only valid when used with the Spectroquant test kit. Nitrate Cell Test (Test kit 100614)

Method: photometric, DMP 23 - 225 mg/l NO₃-N 102 - 996 mg/l NO₃⁻

In sulfuric and phosphoric solution nitrate ions react with 2,6-dimethylphenol (DMP) to form 4-nitro-2,6-dimethylphenol that is determined photometrically. The method is analogous to DIN 38405-9. USEPA approved for drinking water and wastewater. The method is only valid when used with the Spectroquant test kit. Test kit order number 100614.

Aluminium Cell Test (Test kit 100594)

Method: photometric 0.02 - 0.50 mg/l Al

In weakly acidic, acetate-buffered solution aluminium ions react with chromazurol S to form a blue-violet compound that is determined photometrically. Due to the intrinsic orange coloration of the reagent blank, the measurement solution is orange-red to red in color. The method is analogous to APHA 3500-Al B and DIN ISO 10566. The method is only valid when used with the Spectroquant cell test kit. Test kit order number 100594.

Nitrite Cell Test (Test kit 100609)

Method: photometric 1.0 - 90.0 mg/l NO₂-N 3.3 - 295.2 mg/l NO₂⁻

The test allows the accurate quantification of the nitrite content in aqueous samples. In acidic solution nitrite ions react with iron(II) ethylenediammonium sulfate to form a yellow to green-brown iron(II) compound that is determined photometrically.The method is only valid when used with the Spectroquant cell test kit. Cyanide Test (Test kit 109701)

Method: photometric 0.002 - 0.500 mg/l CN⁻

Cyanide ions react with a chlorinating agent to form cyanogen chloride, which in turn reacts with 1,3-dimethylbarbituric acid to form a violet dye (pyridine-free König reaction). This dye is determined photometrically. The method corresponds to DIN 38405-13 and is analogous to ISO 6703, EPA 335.2, APHA 4500-CN- E, and ASTM D2036-09 D. Silicate (Silicic Acid) Test (Test kit 101813)

Method: photometric 0.25 - 500.0 µg/l SiO₂ 0.12 - 233.7 µg/l Si

In sulfuric solution silicate ions react with molybdate ions to form a yellow heteropoly acid. This is reduced to silicomolybdenum blue that is determined photometrically. Phenol Test (Test kit 100856)

Method: photometric 0.002 - 5.00 mg/l

In buffered solution, in the presence of an oxidizing agent phenol and its ortho- and meta-substituted compounds react with 4-aminoantipyrine to form a red compound that is determined photometrically. The method is analogous to EPA 420.1, APHA 5530 C+D, ISO 6439, and ASTM D1783-01. The method is only valid when used with the Spectroquant test kit. Order number 100856.

Cadmium Test (Test kit 101745)

Method: photometric 0.002 - 0.500 mg/l Cd

In alkaline solution cadmium ions react with a cadion derivative (cadion = trivial name for 1-(4-nitrophenyl)-3-(4-phenylazophenyl)triazene) to form a red complex that is determined photometrically. Potassium Cell Test (Test kit 114562)

Method: photometric 5.0 - 50.0 mg/l K

The method allows the accurate quantification of the potassium content in aqueous samples. In alkaline solution potassium ions react with Kalignost® (sodium tetraphenylborate) to form a slightly soluble precipitate. Ammonium Test (Test kit 114752)

Method: photometric 0.010 - 3.00 mg/l NH₄-N

The method allows the cyanide-free quantification of ammonium in wastewater, groundwater, surface water, and seawater. Typically, ammonium enters water sources as runoff from fertilized agricultural areas and enhanced levels are important indicators for fecal pollution. In weakly phosphoric solution chromium(VI) ions react with diphenylcarbazide to form chromium(III) and diphenylcarbazone, which form a red-violet complex. This complex is determined photometrically. COD Cell Test (Test kit 114895)

Method: photometric 15 - 300 mg/l

The COD (chemical oxygen demand) expresses the amount of oxygen originating from potassium dichromate that reacts with the oxidizable substances contained in 1 l of water under the working conditions of the specified procedure. 1 mol K2Cr2O7 is equivalent to 1.5 mol O2.
