Crucibles serve as containers for samples during DSC and TGA measurements. They guarantee that the sensor is not contaminated during the measurement.

Alumina 600 μL crucibles with lid.Set of 4 crucibles and lids. Alumina (aluminum oxide) crucibles are normally used for TGA measurements, especially when the TG signal is more important than the SDTA signal. These crucibles can be reused after cleaning.

Alumina crucibles can be reused
After the measurement, the alumina crucibles can be regenerated. Often they are mechanically cleaned, then rinsed in solution before drying.
No sample change prior to measurement
The alumina crucibles can be used in combination with special Al lids. They prevent sample changes during the waiting period before the measurement. This is of high relevance for samples that can take up water or samples that evaporate content.
Regeneration of alumina crucibles
After mechanical cleaning store, if needed, in water (or even in 10% hydrochloric acid). Oxides may form which can then be removed by rinsing. After drying, heat the crucibles to red hot to ensure that no weight loss occurs when they are used.
Several metals are critical
Al2O3 has the tendency to form spinels with Fe2+, Ni2+, Cu2+ and others, particularly at temperatures above 1000 °C. In addition, the melt of these metals dissolve Al2O3.
