Titanium in Cement Determination with UV Vis

By Measuring Absorbance of Titanium-Hydrogen Peroxide Complex

This application note provides a method to determine the TiO2 content in cement. TiO2 forms a yellow color complex with hydrogen peroxide. Absorbance of this colored complex can be determined at 410 nm using a

UV-Vis spectrophotometer.

Background

With increasing air pollutants, the demand for self-cleaning building materials has become more relevant in recent years. Titanium oxide (TiO2) is used to make self-cleaning cement. TiO2 content in the cement breaks down the pollutants; for example, it reduces NOx levels.
