Background
Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) is a strong oxidant, known to be very effective against myriad of microorganisms along with bacteria, yeasts, fungi, viruses, and spores. A solution of 0.5% hydrogen peroxide solution generally referred as Hydrox shows combined microbial killing having a cleaning efficiency on medical devices that is better than many detergent solutions. 3% hydrogen peroxide is an effective and stable disinfectant when used on inanimate surfaces like soft contact lenses, tonometer biprisms, ventilators, fabrics, and endoscopes whereas concentrations from 6% to 25% act as chemical sterilants. However 0.125% hydrogen peroxide is used in preparation of handrub sanitizers.
