Advanced Metal Detection in Pharmaceutical Tablets

Designed to help in the meeting of exacting standards and regulations in the industry, our pharmaceutical metal detection systems provide fully integrated product inspection and rejection solutions for tablets, capsules, powders and granules. Our metal detection systems are designed to detect all metal contaminant types, including ferrous, non-ferrous and even the most difficult-to-detect non-magnetic stainless steels.

Maximum Versatility and Mobility

Offering maximum flexibility in process areas, our pharmaceutical metal detection systems for tablets and capsules have a compact footprint, which enables them to be inserted into areas where space is restricted. Robust, low profile, fully rotating castors make systems easy to move around, enabling the system to be used in multiple locations. The adjustable metal detector head provides further flexibility (without the need for tools) in all three axes to suit almost any confi...

Supporting Compliance with Regulatory Standards

Our Tablex-PRO metal detectors support compliance with pharmaceutical regulatory standards and external codes of practice including:  21 CFR Part 210 - GMP Predicate Rule,  21 CFR Part 211 - GMP Predicate Rule,  21 CFR Part 11 - Electronic Records and Signatures and Good Automated Manufacturing Practice (GAMP). The systems are designed to detect metal contaminants potentially encountered in pharmaceutical manufacturing processes, including ferrous, non-ferrous and even the most difficult-to-detect non-magnetic stainless steels (grade 316). Contaminants less than 0.3mm in diameter can be readily detected and rejected.

FDA metal detection limits support regulatory action against products with metal fragments 0.3 inch (7 mm) to 1 inch (25 mm) in length.

Application-Specific Solutions for Enhanced Productivity

Our Tablex 2 and Tablex-PRO systems are specific metal detectors for tablets and capsules in pharmaceutical applications. Our Pharma GF-Pro metal detector provides efficient inspection of powdered and granular pharmaceutical products under free-fall conditions. All Safeline pharmaceutical metal detectors can be easily integrated with other inline processing equipment such as tablet de-dusters to support productivity and efficiency aims.

Test Samples to Verify Performance of Your Metal Detector

Test Samples to Verify Performance of Your Metal Detector

We provide a range of certifiable test samples to assist your metal detection testing processes. These are available in a selection of materials, sizes and carriers for any metal detection application, including conveyorized systems, vertical and gravity fall metal detection systems and pipeline systems. Having the correct test pieces to conduct the testing supports accurate and consistent performance verification processes for compliance and due diligence requirements.

Sample FAQ

Where are pharmaceutical metal detection systems placed on a production line?

Pharmaceutical tablet metal detections systems such as METTLER TOLEDO Safeline's Tablex 2 and Tablex-PRO, should be installed after tablet presses, de-dusters and other pharmaceutical process equipment to support manufacturers in complying with the needs of both internal standards and external regulatory requirements.

PharmaGF-PRO metal detection systems are commonly used to inspect bulk pharmaceutical and nutraceutical products in powder or granular formats in-flight, including Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs).

What metal detection standards are used in the pharmaceutical industry?

A range of METTLER TOLEDO Safeline pharmaceutical metal detection systems can support compliance with pharmaceutical regulatory standards and external codes of practice including:

  • 21 CFR Part 210 - GMP Predicate Rule
  • 21 CFR Part 211 - GMP Predicate Rule
  • 21 CFR Part 11 - Electronic Records & Signatures
  • Good Automated Manufacturing Practice (GAMP).

What reject mechanisms are available for pharmaceutical metal detectors?

Manufactured from mirror-polished stainless steel, and incorporating pharmaceutical-grade FDA-approved contact parts throughout, METTLER TOLEDO Safeline's range of Tablex and Pharma GF-PRO metal detection systems have flexible reject mechanisms to suit your application. Two interchangeable reject devices are available on the Tablex 2 and Tablex-PRO metal detectors. A Side Diverter is suitable for use in vertically restricted height installations and offers the shortest overall throughput length. Alternatively, a Lift Flap Diverter is available which is ideal for straight-line product flow.

An integrated diverter is available for the Pharma GF-PRO metal detector, which incorporates a fully integrated high-speed reject device to divert contaminated product flow.

Do you provide pharmaceutical metal detectors at different sizes to accommodate smaller production spaces?

METTLER TOLEDO Safeline's Tablex 2 and Tablex-PRO metal detectors are available in three standard aperture sizes to accommodate a wide variety of tablet and capsule sizes and throughput rates. There is also a choice of two interchangeable reject devices to suit all product types, applications and configurations.

Our Pharma GF-PRO metal detectors provide efficient inspection of powdered and granular pharmaceutical products under free-fall conditions, a process as important as inspecting tablets and capsules. Pharma GF-PRO metal detectors are compact in size, so they can be installed in restricted spaces. Apertures are available in a choice of two standard sizes to accommodate a wide variety of throughputs. A fully integrated high-speed reject device can also be incorporated to divert contaminated product flow.
