Case Study on Keeping Pure Water Projects Running

Pure Water Equipment Case Study
Pure Water Equipment Case Study

Specifying the right equipment to confirm impurities have been removed from power plant make-up water requires choosing highly sensitive, fast responding, on-line sensors. For the water system at a US facility, METTLER TOLEDO provides uniquely reliable, digital pH sensors.

This case study provides insight into the project, the challenges and the solution.

A large US electric and natural gas company provides a comprehensive portfolio of energy-related products and services to over three million electricity customers and one million natural gas customers. For installation of new reverse osmosis and water demineralization systems at the plant, a well-respected Canadian-based supplier was selected.

The water system supplier and the power company initially agreed to install another provider’s pH and conductivity monitoring systems on the new equipment.

One major requirement for the water system supplier was to ensure that demineralized water production could run continuously. Any downtime of the system and monitoring equipment could lead to significant excursions in impurities in the water and damage to costly equipment.

The supplier was interested in METTLER TOLEDO Intelligent Sensor Management (ISM®) technology and arranged for a demonstration for them and power plant representatives to determine its benefits. For the system builder to remain competitive, they needed to specify equipment that would help their customer to meet this challenge.
