Riboflavin in Polyethylene Glycol Using UV Vis

Determination in Pharmaceutical Tablets Using UV Vis Spectroscopy

This application note presents the determination of riboflavin content in polyethylene glycol (PEG) using a METTLER TOLEDO UV Vis spectrophotometer.

What Is Riboflavin?

Riboflavin or vitamin B2 is a water-soluble vitamin required for the normal function of aerobic cells. Milk and dairy products are rich sources of riboflavin. It has a beneficial effect on migraine headaches and its deficiency can cause skin disorders and hyperemia.

How to Determine Riboflavin Content Spectrophotometrically?

Riboflavin is frequently used as a colorant in pharmaceutical tablets. In effervescent tablets, PEG is used as an anti-foaming agent along with riboflavin. This application note describes the detailed calibration of riboflavin in PEG using a METTLER TOLEDO UV7 spectrophotometer at 268 nm. Riboflavin content in effervescent tablets is determined precisely using the calibration curve.
