Crucibles serve as containers for samples during DSC and TGA measurements. They guarantee that the sensor is not contaminated during the measurement.

Apart from certain types of aluminum pan, gold is the only material that can be hermetically sealed by cold welding.

Au 40 μL crucibles hermetically sealed
The crucibles can be hermetically sealed to suppress endothermic evaporation, vaporization or sublimation when carrying out DSC measurements on volatile substances. The maximum permissible overpressure that the sealed lid withstands is 0.25 MPa.
Regeneration of gold crucibles
The gold surface becomes dirty during longer periods of storage, which makes cold welding more difficult. To clean the pan and lid, we recommend that you heat them to about 500 °C for a short time prior to use (heat cleaning).
Molten metals and gold
Caution: Molten metals form alloys with gold very easily, which can result in a hole in the bottom of the crucible.
