Digital Sensors: How Do They Monitor Their Health?
Digital analytical sensors have an on-board microchip and some use diagnostic tools that predict when calibration or replacement will be needed.
They can do this because the chip constantly monitors process and sensor condition and builds a picture of sensor health. The diagnostics use that data to calculate in how many days maintenance should be performed.
Because these sensors constantly monitor their own "health", the diagnostic tools operate dynamically. That is, should process conditions become milder (for example, from high temperature to ambient temperature), the prediction from the tools will adjust to reflect this.
The diagnostic tools are displayed on the connected transmitter in the number of days remaining until calibration or replacement should be performed.
