This article explores the effect of sample weight on TG results. Sample weight influences the temperature observed for an effect and the rate of weight loss which is caused by the heat transfer from the furnace to the sample. A series of measurements on samples of the same weight showed that a temperature deviation of ±1 °C at 10% weight loss is possible because other less important parameters such as sample geometry, particle size, packing density etc. all affect reproducibility. The degree of uncertainty is however much less than the shift of 60 K caused by widely different sample weights.
