Greifensee, Switzerland – September 16, 2025 – The World Economic Forum’s Global Lighthouse Network (GLN) has recognized the METTLER TOLEDO site in Changzhou, China, as a Lighthouse site in the new Customer Centric category. This new area of distinction honors companies that deeply understand and meet customer expectations, deliver personalized service, and build strong relationships to drive customer loyalty and business success.
Lighthouses represent the world’s most advanced factories and are industry leaders, excelling in areas including productivity, supply chain resilience, sustainability, talent, and customer centricity. Lighthouses must demonstrate excellence in all categories, with particular distinction in at least one of these areas.
“We are very proud of our team for its ongoing commitment to enhance our product development and delivery practices to create a world-class customer experience,” says Oliver Wittorf, METTLER TOLEDO Head of Supply Chain and IT. “By implementing dozens of digital use cases, and with a strong commitment to continual improvement, we have achieved several of our ambitious goals that cover the entire value chain. This includes excellence in on-time delivery metrics, cost management, and always looking for ways to enhance and improve product quality. These accomplishments enable us to meet complex customer requirements and deliver fully tailored solutions.”
Kiva Allgood, Managing Director and Head of the Centre for Advanced Manufacturing and Supply Chains, World Economic Forum adds, “The organizations that will shape the future are those driving holistic transformation today, embedding digital innovation, resilience, sustainability, talent development, and customer centricity into everything they do.”
The Changzhou site’s primary focus is on the Company’s Product Inspection, Industrial, and Retail Weighing business areas. The product mix includes x-ray inspection, terminals, bench and floor scales, vehicle scales, weigh modules, retail AI-enabled scales, and more. With such a diverse and highly customized product portfolio, effectively using advanced technologies is both essential and part of the site’s operational DNA.
As part of the team’s digital journey, they deployed 49 Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) use cases, including AI-accelerated product configuration, reconfigurable modular cluster workstations, and machine learning-powered welding inspection with closed-loop adjustments to preserve quality. These solutions helped the site achieve a more than 98 percent on-time delivery rate, 22 percent reduction in lead time, and a Net Promoter Score of 84.9.
METTLER TOLEDO drew on its decades of automation and digitization experience as part of the Lighthouse application process. As part of the evaluation, a GLN independent panel of experts from academia, industry, and technology conducted an on-site visit of the Changzhou plant. The site also reflects GLN principles such as innovative culture, agility, talent cultivation, and effectively leveraging AI and other advanced 4IR technologies. With a commitment to digital transformation, these elements work together to achieve notable performance gains along the entire value chain, resulting in exceptional productivity and operations.
The Lighthouse recognition highlights METTLER TOLEDO's unwavering commitment to putting customers at the heart of innovation and operational excellence. “As a Global Lighthouse Network member, METTLER TOLEDO looks forward to collaborating with other Lighthouse sites and leveraging continual innovations that help empower opportunities for our customers,” says Oliver.
