How to Determine the Concentration of Copper Sulfate?

Copper sulfate is used in wide range of industries. In electroplating as mordant of dyeing, in the metal industry as an electrolyte, for copper plating process in the steel industry, in agriculture, and many more. The extensive application of copper sulfate denotes the significance for the determination of the precise concentration based on its application. 

In this application note, the concentration of copper sulfate is determined by potentiometric titration by titrating against a standard solution of disodium salt of ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA). The titration works on the principle of complexometry where copper forms a complex with EDTA. The excess free copper ion is monitored using a copper ion selective electrode.
