What are PFAS?

PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) are a diverse set of synthetic chemicals with heat resistant, lipophobic, and hydrophobic properties that are used in a wide range of laboratory, consumer, and industrial products. Due to their resistance to degradation and accumulation in the environment, there are growing concerns about the impact of these "forever chemicals." Switching to PFAS-free alternatives may reduce these risks and avoid the impact of a shifting regulatory landscape.

  • Although some manufacturers claim their tips are low retention without the use of additives (e.g., tips made with “diamond polished molds”), these tips do nothing to prevent the sample from binding to the tip surface.
