Corrosion in Feedwater and Steam Systems
Dissolved oxygen, chlorides, sulfates, and other aggressive ions drive corrosion in feedwater, condensate, and steam systems. General corrosion thins metal walls, but more dangerous forms, such as pitting, crevice corrosion, and stress‑corrosion cracking, often go unnoticed until severe damage appears.
Trace contaminants carried in steam can attack turbine blades and discs, reducing performance and forcing costly overhauls. Flow‑accelerated corrosion can strip protective oxides in high‑flow areas, accelerating metal loss and risking failures.
