Press Release: METTLER TOLEDO announces upgrade to its chlor-alkali pH sensor

The InPro 4850i pH sensor from METTLER TOLEDO is designed specifically to meet the needs of the chlor-alkali industry. Upgrades now further improve its suitability to challenging chlor-alkali processes.

Urdorf, Switzerland – METTLER TOLEDO Process Analytics announces the relaunch of the InPro 4850i pH sensor for chlor-alkali applications.

pH measurement and control is essential in the chlor-alkali industry, but process conditions are harsh for standard pH sensors. Probes can quickly suffer from measurement drift and poisoning or clogging of the diaphragm of their reference system, which causes measurement errors and slow response.

METTLER TOLEDO solved these issues with the InPro 4850i, a pH sensor with a sealed reference system that uses the chlor-alkali process fluid as a reference. Without a diaphragm, the sensor is immune to the problems mentioned above.

The InPro 4850i solves a further problem. Standard pH sensors output a high impedance signal that is very sensitive to electrical interference. Touching or simply approaching the sensor and its cable can cause the output signal to fluctuate significantly. InPro 4850i outputs a low impedance digital signal. Not only is this signal more precise than an analog signal, it is completely unaffected by electrical interference and is therefore 100 % stable.

InPro 4850i also features predictive diagnostics that indicate when the sensor will need to be replaced, avoiding the possibility of it failing while measuring in the process.

METTLER TOLEDO has now upgraded the InPro 4850i pH with a new design of sensor tip that is more robust to both mechanical and chemical stresses. The sensor is also now available in standard 120 mm and 225 mm lengths, making it compatible with all existing METTLER TOLEDO sensor housings.

“This upgrade improves our InPro 4850i significantly,” says Balz Aebli, Product Manager pH Sensors at METTLER TOLEDO. “InPro 4850i solves major headaches for chlor-alkali companies. By making the sensor tip more robust it’s better able to tolerate the tough process conditions, and the change in sensor length means installation is far more flexible.”
