Industrial metal detection works by passing a food, pharmaceutical, chemical, cosmetic, or other product through the aperture (the opening) of a metal detection head.
The product can be passed through via conveyor, pipeline, or even with gravity. An electromagnetic field within the metal detector head is able to detect when metal contamination passes through by creating a disturbance in the field that is read by the metal detector. At that point the metal detector sends a signal to the reject device to reject that contaminated product from the line.
