Nitroalkane Chemistry by WeylChem - METTLER TOLEDO

Nitroalkane Chemistry by WeylChem

Safe Process Scale-up at Weylchem

This webinar focuses on safe process scale-up using a case study of nitroalkane chemistry by WeylChem.

A scalable and cost efficient synthetic route to diformylarylbenzene was investigated. It involved a double formylation step that relies on the use of 2-nitropropane as a primary reagent. Due to the inherent energetic nature of nitroalkanes, a process safety assessment was necessary.

This Safe Scale-up webinar will demonstrate how process information gained from three RC1e experiments showed the experimental conditions required to match reaction exotherm with plant cooling capacity. In addition, the various thermodynamic and worst case scenario trends available allowed Weylchem to define safer and more efficient reaction conditions including:
  • Dosing Time
  • Start Temperature
  • Digest Temperature
  • Reaction Time
