In recent years, there has been interest in applying data rich experimentation to chemical development, process scale-up, and manufacturing processes. By increasing the frequency of data collection, scientists are able to analyze a chemical reaction or bioprocess under actual reaction conditions without delay or gaps in understanding. This provides new insight to the exact conditions which cause initiation, impurity or by-product formation, or endpoints to be reached.  Data rich experiments are particularly important to understand the effects that changing process conditions have on the product.  In particular, synthetic reactions can be fingerprinted using PAT techniques to develop a process trend.  This trend then provides a map of the ideal trajectory from reaction initiation through endpoint.  This trend can be followed as a GPS (global positioning satellite) as the process is scaled-up.  The presenters will discuss issues associated with data rich reactions and the decisions that are based on them.
