White Paper: Durable Chlor-Alkali pH Electrode
pH measurement is vital in the chlor-alkali process. But elevated temperatures and the presence of chlorine and high salt concentrations throughout the chlor-alkali process make stable and reliable pH measurement with conventional pH electrodes a constant challenge.
Further, the conditions mean electrode lifetime is usually short; therefore, costs in terms of sensor maintenance and replacement are high.
This white paper considers the problems of pH measurement in the chlor-alkali membrane cell process and looks at the InPro 4850i, a chlor-alkali pH electrode designed specifically to tolerate the production process.

This dual-membrane sensor uses the process brine itself as a reference and is immune to measurement problems. In addition, digital transmission from the sensor to the connected transmitter provides exceptional signal stability.

Unlike conventional pH electrodes, the InPro 4850i Chlor-Alkali pH Electrode has no diaphragm, making it immune to chlorine and other oxidizing agents that can lead to failure in other pH electrodes.

The sensor outputs a low impedance digital signal, which is not only more precise than an analog signal, it is completely unaffected by moisture and electrical interference and is therefore 100% stable.

The InPro 4850i Chlor-Alkali pH Electrode combines a pNa reference system, advanced glass technology, and digital signal to provide incomparable measurement reliability, long term stability, extended calibration intervals, plus the flexibility to position the transmitter away from the sensor.
