Should I have a dedicated or a multi-parameter instrument?
This depends on your application. Dedicated single channel meters can be used to measure one parameter like pH, ORP, ion concentration, conductivity, or dissolved oxygen). Multi-parameter instruments allow you to measure more than one parameter at the same workplace.
What is the difference between linear and segmented calibration?

After performing a segmented calibration with three buffers, two slope and two offset values are given. When performing a linear 3 point calibration, you get only one slope and one offset value based on the line drawn by linear regression (fitted using the least squares approach) between all 3 calibration points.
The difference between these two methods is that the segmented calibration is considered to be more accurate, because it fits more the real behavior of an electrode than just one line.
When performing a measurement after a segmented calibration, the instrument takes the slope and offset according to the pH value measured. For example, if the measured value is pH 5, the slope/offset values between pH 4.00 & pH 7.00 will be used. If the measured value is pH 9, the slope/offset between pH 7.00 & pH 10 will be used.
When performing a measurement after a linear calibration, in case of measured pH 5 and pH 9, the same slope value is used for calculation.
