Metal Detection business wins two manufacturing sector awards

METTLER TOLEDO Safeline has been recognised for its apprenticeship and future talent development program by winning two Make UK Manufacturing Awards.

Jack Woolmer won the North West Engineering Apprentice of the Year Award, while his colleague Elliot Morris was named runner-up in the same category. METTLER TOLEDO Safeline also won the Developing Future Talent Award for the North West region for the role its Apprenticeship, Training and Development Program has played in building skills, developing talent, and promoting diversity amongst employees.

Jack Woolmer joined METTLER TOLEDO Safeline as an apprentice in 2016, working in all production areas of the business to develop his knowledge and engineering skills. Jack has displayed excellent leadership qualities and has been proactive in visiting local schools to champion apprenticeships. Following the successful completion of his four-year apprenticeship, Jack was offered a permanent role as Mechanical Fitter.

METTLER TOLEDO Safeline started its apprenticeship program in 2009 and believes that young people are the future of engineering. The company is committed to encouraging young people to develop a career in the processing and packaging industry by working with local schools and colleges.

June Smith, Region Director for Make UK in the North of England, commented: “These awards are a testament to the dynamic companies and individuals working within engineering and manufacturing. The sector has been at the heart of delivering during the COVID-19 pandemic, and as we re-build our economy there will be a bright future for companies and individuals that make the most of their talent”.

Make UK is the representative voice of UK manufacturing, and winners of the regional awards will take part in the national judging in December 2020. National winners will be announced at a virtual gala in January 2021.
