Degradation of a Silicone Polymer by TGA-FTIR

Introduction

The aim of the experiment was to identify the degradation products of a silicone polymer. The most common type of silicone polymer is poly (dimethylsiloxane), PDMS. The backbone of the chain is inorganic and consists of repeating siloxane units (alternate silicon and oxygen atoms). Two methyl groups are bonded to each silicon atom.

Sample:     Silicones (polysiloxanes)
