Thermal Degradation of BHET by TGA-FTIR

Introduction

In this application, TGA-FTIR was used to investigate the thermal degradation of bis-hydroxyl-ethyl-terephthalate (BHET). BHET is usually produced by the esterification of terephthalic acid (TPA) with ethylene glycol (EG). This substance is used in the production of PET bottles. The monomer is sometimes also formed during the recycling of PET bottles in the depolymerization process.
