Alcohol content determination is performed to check the purity and quality of a product in various industries – be it during ethanol or bioethanol production, or to identify incoming goods directly at the truck or in a lab, or to determine the alcohol concentration of distilled spirits.

One of the easiest ways to determine the alcohol content of a sample is via density measurement. Although pycnometers and hydrometers have traditionally been used for this purpose, these methods are also time-consuming and operator-dependent. Digital density meters are now much more common and deliver quick, accurate results. For a quick check with up to a three-decimal-place accuracy, a portable density meter is ideal: however, note that measurement with a portable density meter can only be done for ethanol/water mixtures.

Whether you work in the lab or on the production line, this application note shows you how to determine alcohol content of your sample with the Density2Go portable digital density meter, including measurement parameters and results.
