A weight sensor works by converting weight or a force that is applied against it into a signal. When a load is applied to a sensor, the resistance is changed, which leads to a change in output voltage.
2. How does load cell sensor technology work?
Load cell sensor technology allows the construction of a scale with one load cell only. Referred to as single-point load cells, these are used individually in scales, hopper scales, process control, conveyor weighing, packaging machines and checkweighers. Single-point load cells are used alone in smaller and mid-size scales. One load cell must take all loads and moments. Compared to a beam load cell of same capacity, they are much bigger. However, they are the simplest load cell to integrate into a scale. At a certain scale capacity and dimensions, the amount of material required to produce a single-point load cell causes them to become uneconomical. Thus, multi-load cell systems are preferred.
