Viscosity refers to a fluid's resistance to flowing or changing shape. It indicates the thickness or stickiness of a liquid. This characteristic influences the ease with which fluids move under force and is vital in disciplines such as scientific and engineering applications.

How to determine viscosity?

Viscosity is typically measured using a device known as a viscometer (or viscosimeter), which evaluates a fluid's resistance to flow. Alternatively, the METTLER TOLEDO Density Excellence instrument can indirectly assess viscosity by detecting the flow resistance resulting from internal friction within liquid samples.

What are dynamic viscosity and kinematic viscosity?

The measure of a fluid's resistance to flow caused by internal friction is called dynamic viscosity, whereas kinematic viscosity is determined by dividing the dynamic viscosity by the fluid's density.
