What is a truck scale and how does a truck weight scale work?
A truck scale is system of several components that work together to provide weight readings when a truck drives onto the scale. It is comprised of a foundation, bridge or deck, load cell system, terminal, and any accessories. These parts work together to provide a weight that can be used for a monetary transaction, inventory tracking, or to check legal weight limits for off-road and over-the-road travel. Weighbridges/truck scales can range in size to accommodate anything from a small farmer to multinational aggregate facilities.

What is the purpose of truck scale or electronic truck scale?
Rugged and reliable truck scales are critical for weighing bulk goods bought or sold by the truckload. Truck scales for sale are industrial scales that are capable of weighing trucks of all sizes. Often, truck weight scale is used to monitor intake and output volumes at facilities either for transactional/commercial purposes or over-the-road compliance. An electronic truck scale can be used in nearly any industry, from raw materials, to food, to chemical.

How do you use a truck scale?
Five main components must work together for a truck weight scale to function properly.

  • Foundation: permanent truck scale installations use a concrete foundation.
  • Weighbridge: Also known as the scale deck, this is the structure that creates the driving surface for the trucks. The weighbridge is typically composed of modular sections that are placed together to span the desired length.
  • Load cells: these are the sensors that measure the weight on the scale. In most modern scales the weighbridge is supported by the load cells themselves. The load cells are a key component to the reliability of truck weight scales.
  • Terminal: sometimes referred to as an indicator, the terminal is the control panel for the scale. It displays the weight value to the operator, and often serves as the connection point for other scale peripherals.
  • Cables: the signal from the load cells must be transmitted to the terminal. In most cases this is done with cables.

What is involved with truck scale calibration?
Truck Scale Calibration is the key service to ensure your scale remains accurate. Truck scales require calibration regularly to adhere to local and international regulations such as NIST Handbook 44, and OIML.  METTLER TOLEDO Services provide professional certification for truck scale calibration through our MiraCal calibration management system.  MiraCal's fully traceable electronic documentation provides certificates that are retrievable on-demand from our secure calibration database.

What should I look for in a weighbridge manufacturer?
Weighbridge manufacturers should be able to offer a variety of configurations of truck weight scales to fit your unique needs. They should have truck scales for sale that offer true accuracy and reliability, because your electronic truck scale is key to your operation. METTLER TOLEDO operates facilities in the US and China that are weighbridge manufacturers, producing the highest quality truck scales for sale. Our truck weight scales are trusted by customers in every industry, offering unmatched accuracy and reliability.
