Flexible Connectivity in Industrial Processes

There are as many industrial processes as there are engineers to conceive them. Companies expect equipment to operate flexibly in various environments and for diverse applications, but it can be difficult to find solutions that meet those needs.

The easy-to-use terminals send signals to the containers where product is loaded. The signals transmit the weight back to the terminals, which display it. The IND131/331 has three features particularly geared to fresh produce processing: speed, flexible connectivity and compact design.

Accuracy at high speeds

METTLER TOLEDO’s process-weighing applications quickly dump material to specified weights. The analog-to-digital rate is quite high; the terminals can read about 360 weights per second. In processing lines, weighing speed impacts profits. These terminals have a digital device that filters unwanted frequencies and vibrations in the load cells that can affect accurate weighing. They use a mathematical algorithm to factor out unwanted frequencies and vibrations quickly.

Flexible in connectivity

With many connectivity options, the IND131 and 331 offer analog output capabilities, but also have the ability to connect to process logic controllers, the brains that run automated processing machines via Ethernet IP, DeviceNet, ControlNet, Profibus DP, Profinet, CC-Link und Modbus TCP Add-on software modules, such as AOP (Add-On Profiles) or GSD (General Station Description) files are available for the PLC with engineering notes to facilitate seamless integration into an automated environment. In this way, the terminals can act as weight sensors and make decisions for the operator based on weight.

Compact design

The weighing terminals are compact and modular so they can be adjusted to fit a multitude of processing styles, and they are easy to integrate into any existing process. They are available in multiple enclosure styles, including mounting on a control panel, a metal rail mount, stainless steel enclosure and a junction box, where multiple load cells can be read to fit any operation.

Terminal features include:

  • Organic LED display
  • Fast analog-to-digital conversion rate and TraxDSP® digital
  • Filtering
  • Enclosures designed to match application environment
  • Modular design for multiple mounting possibilities
  • 24 VDC operation
  • Support for a wide variety of options, including DIO, additional serial port and PLC interfaces
