Sign up for the Sustainability and Innovation in Biomedical Research On-Demand webinar! This webinar explores the impact of biomedical science and healthcare on climate-related emissions and their associated health effects.
We will emphasize the importance of a comprehensive approach to resource use and waste management over taking isolated actions. The primary focus will be on how supply chain management, energy consumption, and laboratory waste generation contribute to the environmental impact of laboratory operations.
Biomedical science and healthcare significantly influence climate-related emissions and health outcomes, but insights into consumable supply chains, energy use, and lab waste processing can empower researchers to reduce the environmental impact of their work.

Emma Stapleton
Assistant Professor at the University of Iowa
Over the past decade, Dr. Stapleton has measured combustion and bioaerosol particulate matter and assessed how air pollution exposures affect airway biology, including airway innate immunity. Her secondary research focus revolves around sustainability in science. Science should strive to improve wellbeing. Unfortunately, biomedical science actually uses more resources than most other industries, making it a large contributor to climate change. To address this, she has formed a team of science students, staff, and investigators across 19 labs dedicated to improving sustainability in biomedical science.

Tim Dillon
Market Manager at METTLER TOLEDO Rainin
From an early childhood fascination with the world of nature to studying Biology at graduate and post graduate level, then onto the world of business , working for myself for many years and latterly back to the science-adjacent world with Rainin. My interests and experiences have given me a rounded understanding of both the natural and commercial world. Working with Rainin to bring these two vital facets of our world into alignment is a labour of love for me. I hope to bring the holistic approach of ecology and the pragmatic approach of business together, and continuously strive to incrementally align both.
