Sensors for tissue engineering
Sensors for tissue engineering

Ospin provides technology solutions that increase throughput in tissue engineering research and serve as a development and production platform for tissue applications. The company was founded in 2014 and in based in Berlin, Germany. Ospin develops modular and scalable bioreactors that enable tissue production for a wide range of clinical and research applications. Their bioreactors require analytical sensors for tissue engineering.

Tissue engineering utilizes human and animal cells, biomaterials, physical stimulation and biochemical factors to manipulate and grow tissue. Its applications are as wide ranging as replacement of animal testing during drug development to developing bioartificial human organs, to creating edible artificial meat. Much of the development in this field requires advanced sensors for tissue engineering, and bioreactors that can standardize, control and automate the required growth and testing conditions in order to achieve high reproducibility.

Maintaining the desired growth environment in the bioreactors requires careful control of pH, dissolved oxygen (DO), and other parameters. This requires the use of highly reliable analytical sensors with excellent repeatability. Ospin identified a need for a reliable analytical equipment including sensors for tissue engineering and they turned to METTLER TOLEDO.

Read in the case study to find out what solutions for pH and DO measurement were offered to Ospin.

METTLER TOLEDO digital dissolved oxygen sensors offer highly accurate measurement with enhanced signal stability. They have a very short response time and require little maintenance. Digital pH sensors from METTLER TOLEDO are reliable and robust and can be used in various applications. All digital sensors from METTLER TOLEDO are equipped with Intelligent Sensor Management (ISM), METTLER TOLEDO's advanced sensor platform. ISM combines the advantages of in-line analytical measurements with modern technology. Among its many features, ISM monitors probe “health” and predicts when sensor calibration, cleaning and replacement should be performed. All system data including calibration and diagnostics information are stored on the sensor.
