Understanding the kinetics of a chemical reaction is one of the most fundamental aspects of chemistry. However, kinetics experiments are not easy to perform. In fact, in the educational environment, most teaching laboratory experiments are related to synthesis, qualitative and quantitative analysis and chemists receive insufficient training in performing kinetic experiments. Professor Sowa discusses how to efficiently teach chemical kinetic experiments.

Professor John R. Sowa, Jr., Associate Professor, Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, Seton Hall University. Prof Sowa joined the faculty at Seton Hall University in 1994 and teaches organic chemistry and spectroscopy undergraduate and graduate courses. His research program investigates new ways to synthesize organic molecules via transition metal catalysts as well as monitoring chemical reactions and dissolution of drugs by in-situ IR spectroscopy and preparation of organometallic reagents for signal enhancement in LC-MS.
