What is the difference between lab consumables, lab accessories, and spare parts?

  • Consumables are products that are “consumed” or used up during a laboratory procedure. They are generally either single-use or limited-use supplies. Examples of consumables include pipette tips and test strips.
  • Accessories are products that are not used up during a lab procedure. Rather, they enhance the performance of laboratory equipment. Examples of lab accessories include weights to help with instrument calibration and pipette storage options.
  • Spare parts refer to replacement parts that are used to repair lab equipment. Spare parts can include things such as tubing, bulbs, and power supply units.

Can your lab consumables only be used with METTLER TOLEDO instruments?

This includes SmartCal™ moisture analyzer testing substances, cuvettes, crucibles, aluminum sample pans, pH buffers, solutions, standards, electrodes, and Universal Pipette TipsContact us for advice on which lab consumables or accessories can best fit your device.

Which sustainable lab consumables do you recommend?

Our Rainin EarthRack™ biodegradable pipette tip racks are made from refined cellulose and are compostable. Our Rainin SpaceSaver™ pipette racks not only save bench space but also reduce plastic waste by 80%.
