Lubrizol's Efficient Scale-Up & Process Control

Connecting the Dots Between Benchtop and In-situ Process Analysis

Program Overview

  • Improve process development and scale-up by leveraging reaction calorimetry and in-situ process analysis
  • Lubrizol's methodology to increase speed to market and enhance productivity of R&D teams
  • Develop, pilot, and implement in-situ FTIR on a production scale

This webinar focuses on how to improve process development and scale-up by leveraging calorimetry and in-situ process analysis. In order to provide the best possible customer service, Lubrizol redefined traditional process development to reduce the time and complexity of new product development, and scale-up/scale-down optimization.

During this presentation, Glenn Cormack discusses the methodology that Lubrizol used to successfully increase the speed to market, foster collaboration, and enhance the productivity of their R&D Departments. Additionally, there is a review of the initial technical challenges that companies may face and best practices for overcoming potential hurdles.

The presentation concludes with an overview of how companies can develop, pilot and successfully implement in-situ FTIR on a production scale. The model development and scale-up process are demonstrated using a case study from Lubrizol’s facility in Bayport, Texas.

About the Presenter

Glenn Cormack

Process Development Engineer, Lubrizol Corporation

Glenn Cormack is a Process Development Engineer at the Lubrizol Corporation in Wickliffe, OH. He obtained his B.S. in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering from the University of Akron and is pursuing his M.S. in Chemical Engineering at Cleveland State University. Glenn supports process technology and development involving antioxidants and extreme pressure (EP) lubricant additives for both Engine Oil and Driveline Gear Oil applications. Glenn has led several efforts to apply in-situ FTIR for process control and monitoring at Lubrizol’s manufacturing facilities. He has also been involved in projects using reaction calorimetery to provide safety parameters for product scale-up.
